Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt – Best Show Ever (until I change my mind)

PSG came out of nowhere. For the first ten episodes I had ignored the show. This was the case even though it was getting very good reviews from pretty much everywhere.

Generally, I don’t give the consensus on the entertainment value of a show much weight. It isn’t because I feel my own views are superior. Quite the opposite, my tastes are far less picky than most.

On that note, you know who else has taste that aren’t that picky, Panty. Horny girls aren’t anything new in anime, but Panty takes that–usually comedic–persona and amps it up past anything imaginable. It’s probably the more blatant and funny running joke in the series.

Her penchant for fornication is only one of the running gags in the show. Each character has some prevailing attribute that appears to be some type of sexual fetish. For that matter, the entire show seems to be a bunch of sex jokes.

I’m glad that the show got over its initial experimentation with poo, in the early episodes. Many may have mistakenly taken these episodes as some juvenile humor about farts, smells, and bodily excretions. Those many would be wrong, in a sense, because poo falls solidly within a sexual fetish known as “scat porn” (don’t tell anyone I never learned you nothing).

I initially found only one fault with the show. It’s Panty and Stocking’s lack of hair accessories. Of course, this is simply a reflexive emotional response on my part. After all, the hairpin is the epitome of innocents, cuteness, and beauty. Upon further thought it became readily apparent why the character designs left out a prominent hair accessory. It’s basically because both Panty and Stocking are pretty slutty. The accessories would interfere with the ho-bag characterization.

Note: Yes, I understand that Stocking has a bow. However, that bow doesn’t seem to serve a function. It’s there for no reason. It doesn’t count.
