A discussion with evil j.valdez – On the Makoto was misunderstood issue
This is a follow-up to a post on the old blog: School Days – Playing devil’s advocate, Makoto was misunderstood
I decided to invite my evil alter ego to have a discussion about the Makoto character in School Days. Those of you who read my last post know that I had taken the stance that the Makoto character was misunderstood. I entirely agree that he was irresponsible, ignorant, selfish, as well as many other things, but my point was that he was no worse than any of the other characters, and his labeling as essentially the bad guy is the wrong categorization.
Just to make things easy:

not so evil >> j.valdez
j.valdez: Why does everyone hate the guy?
valdez.j: Who says everyone hates the guy. I like the character.
j.valdez: He was a total irresponsible ass who took advantage of all those girls. How can you like the guy?
valdez.j: What? Oh, so suddenly a guy who has girls throwing themselves all over him is taking advantage of them. That’s a bunch of bull. He was simply taking what was offered and nothing more.
j.valdez: Yeah, but you have to understand that those girls were inexperienced and didn’t know how to handle an aggressive guy. . .
valdez.j Let me stop you right there. That’s a bunch of bull, again, “didn’t know how to handle an aggressive guy” my ass. They were totally “handling” him all over the place. Some of them seemed to be pretty good at it.
j.valdez: Well specifically I was talking about Kotonoha and Sekai.
valdez.j: Oh, those two. If I were an anime character I’d totally hit that too.
j.valdez: huh. . .
valdez.j: I’m just saying. . .
j.valdez: What are you saying? Are you saying that you would. . .
valdez.j: yeah, if I were an anime character.
j.valdez: You do realize that they are only drawings right?
valdez.j: I don’t follow?
j.valdez: Not real.
valdez.j: Que?
j.valdez: . . .
valdez.j: I’m just playing. If it makes you feel better, I’d hit it figuratively.
j.valdez: No, that does not make me feel better. What does that mean anyway? I’m worried about you. At any rate, let’s continue with the topic please. Okay, I’ll give you that some of the girls were just as aggressive as Makoto. We’re talking about Kotonoha and Sekai not the other girls.
valdez.j: Need I remind you that Sekai was “practicing” with Makoto for like half the damn episodes. How exactly is he supposed to take that? What about Kotonoha, everyone knows that shy girls with big breast are irresistible to Japanese men.
j.valdez: Both the girls had major issues. We can assume that Kotonoha probably had some real major mental problems. Sekai was dealing with depression, loneliness, and feeling abandoned. Neither one of them was looking for a “good time,” but Makoto seemed to only be concerned with that.
valdez.j: Listen, you’re asking this kid to be a man. He’s not, he’s a kid. As a kid, he’s a stupid numb-nut who can’t control himself, same with the girls. You want him to understand that Sekai is using her body as a way of expressing her feelings and running away from them at the same time. You want him to understand that Kotonoha has a major mental defect and doesn’t need to be put through the things he is causing. Basically, you want him to be you in that situation and not every other guy on the planet realistically that age and in that situation.
j.valdez: Wasn’t I the one arguing that he was misunderstood?
valdez.j: Yeah, I’m not sure where you got off track.
j.valdez: It’s just so easy to blame the guy for everything.
valdez.j: I think the moral of the story is that you should not date crazy chicks, or they’ll kill you and then take your head as a trophy.
j.valdez: I think you may have missed your own point.
I’d like to thank evil j.valdez for stopping by to discuss this matter. However, I’m not sure it was as productive as it could have been. Until next time.
