Adventures in fandom – 19 inches of anime goodness (that smells like fish)

Trust me there is a story here:

I bought a new monitor to free up space on my desk and also watch anime. I don’t have a problem with generic electronics. At any rate, I watch most of my fansubs on my computer even though I have the S-video hooked up to my TV. It’s simply more comfortable to sit back and put my feet up on the desk and watch an hour or so of anime before I go to sleep.

I saw it on outpost.com. It was an impulse buy. At the time of this posting $169 is fairly good deal for a 19″ LCD flat panel. It’s not the best flat panel out there and I probably couldn’t afford to buy it this month (me == poor college student), but like I said it was an impulse buy.

Okay, so I got the monitor about two days ago and frantically opened it up so that I could test out Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge on it. I wasn’t expecting a drastic change because I have another 19 about 14 inches to the left of the new one, so the test was to see what bishounen look like 14 inches to the right of my standard viewing angle.

No change really.

I opened the box and pulled back the plastic rapping expecting to get a whiff of new plastic and styrofoam. What was I presented with? Nothing other than the distinct oder of tuna. Yes, you heard me right. My new monitor smells like fish!

Let me repeat that MY NEW MONITOR SMELLS LIKE FISH.

I assumed that it must have been stolen by pirates while it was on it’s way to the US and hidden on a fishing boat to avoid inspections and tariffs. It must have been hidden under piles of tuna and other fish for days or even weeks! Probably even some dead bodies, I don’t know. I’m pretty sure I didn’t smell dead body on my new monitor.

The good news is that the fishiness dissipated after about a day. Overall, I’d have to say that I’m pleased with the new monitor. Now, please excuse me I have to go watch Sumomomo Momomo 11 now.

Note: the link to the monitor on outpost.com (fry’s website) will not be a valid link forever, more than likely it will break in the near future when the stock runs out.
