I can’t get over the fact that listing to the Animenano podcast reminds me of listening to NPR, with shitty microphones. Don’t get me wrong, I’m absolutely fore the whole endeavor. I have enjoyed listening to the podcast so far. This time the host are Hung, jpmeyer, and DiGiKerot. Hinano was absent this time. So, I almost decided to skip this one…just kidding…no-really. I was a little disappointed that she wasn’t going to be there because it upsets the balance of the show, too much testosterone. See, I’m all for a harem type situation with the nano podcast. Something like 4 or 5 chics and, of course, Hung. It would be cool if every once in a while they beat Hung down for no real reason except for being a dude.

Why don’t they just gather up every swinging-dick with a blog and let them spout off about anime! Actually, you have to give Hung and his troupe credit. This is only the third animenano podcast; plus, I don’t believe any of them have podcasting experience. So, I think, their doing a Hecova-job.

I was listening to the show when I suddenly came upon a “What?” moment. It was from a question in the “mailbag.” Do anime characters speak like real Japanese people? My first though was…does anyone on TV speak like a real person? The conclusion was that anime characters don’t talk like real Japanese people **shocker**. If you want to know how real people speak. Listen to the way the cast on this podcast speak. Hung with the excessive “likes,” which a lot of people are guilty of some times. JP “japes” with the studded apprehension and burst of energy in his voice. DiGiKerot, who really should have talked more, but has like that really cool Brit accent. That’s the way people talk in “real life” you only have to remember that TV is always scripted in some fashion. One of the selling points of the nano podcast, and podcast in general, is that a lot of the time the shows are free-wheeling the content. It’s just a mix of a very rough sketched out plan and whatever else fits the fancy of the commentors. Overall, it seems to work for the medium.

DiGiKerot stated that “jpmeyer = Guy from Nadesco.” By the way, if you haven’t seen Martian Successor Nadesico, go buy it. It’s a superior anime. I don’t know about that (really I don’t because I don’t know JP), but if jpmeyer is into all that “friendship, love, sacrafice!!!” stuff, then I’m going to have to agree.

Did you know that 4chan’s /b/ section was “random,”….learn something new everyday…huh?

This episode spent a considerable amount of time on what can be called American manga. I’m not a manga reader. Mostly, I don’t read manga because of time restraints. All in all, I think that American style manga has it’s place, just as classic American comics have their place. Largely, while the American comicbook companies like Marvel and DC have continued to roll out the standard fair, they have started to invest in the lucrative manga styles as well…or so I’ve heard.

JP mentioned something about “Cinemanga.” I think I’m going to have to check that out, sounds interesting.

I think Hung managed to come up with an answer to any Japan specific questions….”’cause their Japan.” Hear that Japan…you’re so damn weird that people accept the answer “’cause your Japan” as an excuse!
