Host Club 14 – Haruhi +5 for Dress-Up

It isn’t much but we get some Tamaki character development. If you really think about it, the characters of the Host Club haven’t really been fleshed out. We know small details about them. You could say that for the most part we have a general idea about what drives the twins, Mori, and Tamaki. Honey as a token loli-shota character; he can’t really exist without Mori but the Mori character could support himself alone, at the moment. Basically, we don’t know what Honey has in store for the rest of the series but I’m guessing nothing much. Haruhi, on the other hand, hasn’t tipped her hat and revealed why she is at the school and what her “dream” is.

OHSHC (how do you like that abbreviation) still has quite a few episodes left, that is if it is going to go a full season. I need to check on that. There is plenty of time for each character to get more foundation story.

I’m actually waiting on the episode where there are romantic polygons between the rest of the Host Club and Haruhi (cannot be triangles because there are more than three characters). Also, we need much more loli Haruhi and Renga.

Episode 14

This episode is about the origins of the Host Club and why Tamaki is their “Lord.” As always Tamaki’s childish behavior was amusing. But, what made the episode for me was Haruhi’s costume for this episode. You can see her above. Obviously, I’m supposed to like the main character of the series, as a viewer. They make it so easy to like Haruhi though.

Tamaki is approached by the head of the Newspaper club to do an exclusive in hopes of saving his failing club. Without a good story to increase sales, the Newspaper Club will fail and be dissolved the next term. Tamaki is more than eager to help out. However, the rest of the Host Club (exception: Haruhi) are not willing to go along. I assume they are aware of the true intentions of the Newspaper club president. He had turned his “newspaper” into little better than a tabloid, which most of the students had stopped reading because of the content. It’s not too hard to guess what kind of article he was going for. Tamaki is blinded by his feelings about the “club” being a family. He sees the Host Club as his family and as the leader he can empathize with the tabloid king of the newspaper club.

Tamaki is a clueless guy, for sure, and he is saved by the rest of the Host Club from public embarrassment. Although, I would think that he would be used to public embarrassments by now. While Tamaki and Haruhi get some alone time in a garden maze, the rest of the Host Club threaten and intimidate the Newspaper Club into backing down. They do it quite elegantly at that but what else would you expect.

We also find out another little tidbit of information about Tamaki.

Yeah, I had the same reaction…
